Fehrenbach named director of Heights Youth Club

Eight-year Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland staff member Jackalyn Fehrenbach has been named director of the site where she started her career – Heights Youth Club in Cleveland Heights.

Fehrenbach, a 2004 graduate of the University of Toledo who is currently working on her master’s degree at Malone University, comes to HYC from the Saint Luke’s Club, where she was director. Heights Youth Club is a nonprofit organization with programming supplied by Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland; it is currently the only BGCC location outside the city of Cleveland.

Fehrenbach replaces Beverly Burgess, who left the organization for another position.

The move comes as HYC and Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland are transitioning the funding model for the Cleveland Heights Club. Under the new model, parents will pay rates between $15 and $60 per week, based on a sliding income scale, for afterschool programming, including supervision by a professional youth development staff, daily meals, transportation from some schools, homework help, arts and music opportunities and athletics.

Fehrenbach started her Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland career at HYC eight years ago. She was appointed director of the Saint Luke’s Club in Cleveland when that location opened in 2013.

“When I was asked to come back to Heights Youth Club I was extremely excited and could not wait to hit the pavement,” Fehrenbach said. “I know that I will be the best fit to implement this new model. With this position comes a lot of great responsibility to the kids and families of Cleveland Heights and I am ready to continue to provide the great level of service we have always strived for, as well as bringing in new ideas and programs that will truly effect our members.”

Fehrenbach grew up in Canton and now lives in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood.

Heights Youth Club, a former church located on Lee Road across from Heights High School, has been a hub of activity for Cleveland Heights kids since it opened in 2007. The Club accepts members ranging in age from 6-18. In addition to activities and programming, the Club served approximately 20,000 free meals to members last year.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland provides fun, safe places for kids to go after school. BGCC has a professional youth development staff and focuses on academic achievement, healthy lifestyles and character development. There are currently 15 Clubs in Cleveland and Cleveland Heights.
