FAQ about Volunteering

Q.  Is there a minimum or maximum number of volunteer hours to complete?
A.  No. We are interested in consistency, whether you volunteer one hour per month or two hours per week. We do require all volunteers to submit to a background check and to attend formal volunteer orientation training.

Q.  Why do you need my social security number to volunteer?
A.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland is dedicated to offering a safe place for children; therefore, we require a background check. We must have your social security number to complete a background check.

Q.  Is there a limit to how long I can volunteer?
A.  No. We have volunteers who have been with us for years.

Q.  Where would I volunteer?
A.  Volunteers are given a choice of location according to convenience from home, work or school.

Q.  What will I do as a volunteer?
A.  Each volunteer is interviewed in order to place you according to interest and experience.

Q.  What’s the first step for becoming a volunteer?
A.  The first step is to reserve your preferred date and attend formal volunteer orientation training.

Q.  Can I bring my child when volunteering?
A.  You can bring your children, ages 6-18, when volunteering, but they must be enrolled as a Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland member and participate in Club programming.
