Arts and Culture Programs
Arts & Culture Programming helps young people enhance self-expression and creativity, develop multicultural appreciation, provide exposure to and develop skills in crafts and visual, performing and literary arts.

The goal of Arts & Culture programming at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland is to teach members how to create and perform ideas and feelings, as well as to understand arts’ contributions and how they shape our beliefs and values. In addition, students will reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of art works.
In addition to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s national programs, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland offers numerous opportunities for members to explore their talent, creativity and heritage. Among these opportunities are:
Dance
Hop, African, Modern, Salsa; you name it, and we probably offer it! Members have participated in Hip Hop, African Dance and Krump dancing instruction and performances.

Creative Writing
Members have participated in spoken word classes, as well as creative writing exercises. Poetry and short stories that the kids authored were compiled and published into a book entitled “Just Us”. (E-mail dparkman@clevekids.org to get your copy!)

Music
Members are exposed to music performance techniques, as well as to instruction allowing them to create their own music. In addition, members of the Boys & Girls Clubs are given opportunities to participate in and become a member of organizations like The Cleveland Boys Choir and Phillis Wheatley.

In addition to the above arts and culture opportunities, this fall members will also have the chance to participate in many new activities such as Capoeira, Fencing, Young Rembrandts, and Youth Theater.
