Why I volunteer

“It gives me a true sense of purpose to support an amazing staff and the incredible kids who walk through the doors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland.

“Through Easter egg hunts, pumpkin decorating, and countless homework sessions, I’ve had so much fun getting to know the kids and supporting their dreams of becoming a nurse, entrepreneur, or even the next LeBron James. The kids who, when I look at them, remind me of my cousins, nieces, nephews, and even myself. I grew up on the east side of Cleveland, in the Collinwood area, where I faced some of the same obstacles that these kids are up against.

“I’ve been so fortunate to have wonderful mentors and role models throughout my life and I’m committed to paying it forward through my involvement with the clubs. I volunteer because of a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that reads, ‘Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.’”
