Core Beliefs of the Boys & Girls Club

A Boys & Girls Club provides:

A safe place to learn and grow

Ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals

Life-enhancing programs and character development experiences

Hope and Opportunity

BGCC offers programs that include innovative curricula to support reading and math achievement, as well as programs that support character development, teach methods to avoid health-risk behaviors (such as premature sexual activity and drug, alcohol and tobacco use), and create a safe and healthy learning environment at all Clubs, all while supporting a culture of learning that engages the entire family.

To date BGCC has over 3,000 active members and has served an additional 5,000 family members, siblings and other community members at six (6) facilities.

Here are just a few of the positive outcomes that we have recorded in 2005:

  • 92% of our regularly attending seniors graduated last year
  • 98% of our youth are promoted to the next grade
  • To date, 383 youth have participated in community service projects

BGCC works with a solid set of goals for individual youth members. The goals include but are not limited to the following:

  • Improve mastery of basic academic skills such as reading and math
  • Develop and enhance interpersonal skills, including civility in relationships, acceptance of responsibility, and accountability for preservation and enhancing the quality of life in the larger community
  • Improve decision-making skills, ability to resist peer pressure around tobacco, alcohol and drug use; and coping skills and;
  • Develop skills for communication, learning, research and creativity using high technology resources
